Even more effective than regular safelists (see previous post) are the credit based ones. For these, you get mail and have to click on links to get credits. You are reading the email and viewing the site - 2 good chances to try and get somebody interested. You then use the credits you have accumulated to send your own messages. Some of them also have a regular safelist feature as well - be careful with this, some of them prohibit mailing the same message consecutively with the credit based system as with the non-credit based one. Some have log-in bonuses - you view a member's ad for credit before you reach the member area. Usually you can take advantage of that boost in credits once a day. Some give you extra credits for promoting the site. Often banner ads are available for purchase.
It's best to have a gmail account because you will get a lot of mail. You can easily set up labels/filters to sort these messages for you.
